Strong Oaks
The Strong Oaks Project came into existence in 2004 as a result of ERI/Area Prevention Resource Center’s work in the communities. The Project is funded by SAMHSA and shall continue serving the targeted community until September 2010.
Crooked Oak Community Prevention Coalition (COCPC). This area is comprised of a collection of impoverished neighborhoods including the Top of the Town and Akers Park, and Shidler Wheeler located in South Oklahoma City. This coalition targets youth and their families who live within the boundaries of the Crooked Oak School District located at 1901 SE 15th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73129. The community includes south to 29th Street north to Reno east to Bryant Avenue and west to Western Avenue.
Northeast Community Coalition: This is area comprised within boundaries of North to Wilshire, South to Reno, West to Western, and East to Douglas to encompass the following schools and communities: Millwood School District, Wildwood Neighborhood and others.
The project has two goals:
Goal 1: Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
Goal 2: Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing factors in the community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse.
